Adidas, Nike and Jordan, OH MY!

Greetings and salutations everyone! Today was National Dog Day so here is a picture of the puppy that we adopted. Her name is August because Nike got shot down…

Anyways, here are my thoughts on some of the drops from this week:

Nike Kobe AD Mamba Day – Dropped 8/24/18 for $200

Released on Mamba Day, these look like Hyperdunks and a definite pass for me. Can someone tell me why the toebox is different on the right and left shoes? The only thing I like about these is the icy yellow outsole.

If past Kobes are any indication, I think these would be good to lace up on the court. I’m guessing you will be able to find these just about anywhere.

Air Jordan 5 International Flight – Dropped 8/25/18 for $190

First off, let me tell everyone that the 5 holds a very special place in my heart. It was first released when I was 12 years old in 1990. At that time I was really starting to get into playing basketball and watching Jordan. Growing up in Chicago in the 80s and 90s was the perfect breeding ground for basketball and sneaker fans alike. I was in love with the reflective tongue, icy outsole and lace locks. I don’t think any other mass-produced sneaker had ever had these features and it simply blew me away.

That being said, there are very few 5s that I will ever pass on and these are no exception. I think one of my favorite things about this pair is the colorway. There is just something about blue and orange (my old high school colors) that gets me every time. I’m also digging the patterned side panel and sock liner, which is a nod to Barcelona street art. the Aire Jordan on the tongue is a great little detail as well. I’m a sucker for a back story and the little details on sneakers!

I haven’t held these but I have seen plenty of pictures and the tumbled leather looks pretty nice. Nothing crazy, but it does look good in pictures.

Speaking of the back story, these pay homage to the time when Jordan played a game in Barcelona, Spain and ended up scoring 37 points.

Overall, I give these an A-. They don’t blow me away but I would cop these and wear with pride.

Check out my guy Unbreakable Kicks for a video review of these bad boys.

They were still available on SNKRS well after they dropped so I’m expecting these to be an easy cop.

Premier X Nike SB Dunk High “Win Some Lose Some” – Dropped 8/25/18 for $110

This is the release of the week for me. It looks to come with several premium features, including vachetta tan leather and a leather tongue tab. It also has a gold-flecked gum outsole which I love and the swoosh scratches off to reveal a gold foil underlayer. If you’ve been a really good boy or girl, you might get a pair that reveals a Nike SB X Premier co-branded underlayer. I hear those are going to be extremely limited, so good luck!

The Win Some, Lose Some moniker apparently represents the gamble or risk a skater takes when trying to land their tricks (sorry, haven’t skated since Gleaming the Cube came out so my lingo is a little rusty). You can find this motto on the inside of the vachetta tan ankle tabs (not sure what the official name is for this part of the shoe?) in a gold foil lettering.

As if this wasn’t enough, it comes in a very cool box with extra goodies, including a golden coin in a velvet pouch and I believe a dust bag (don’t quote me on that).

These seem to have sold out everywhere so good luck grabbing a pair.

Nike Kyrie 4 “Decades Pack” – Dropped 8/25/18 for $120/each

The current king of colorways is back at it again with a dope selection. My personal favorite of the three pairs is the yellow, psychedelic 70s colorway.

I’m passing as I don’t really rock the basketball shoes unless they’re Jordan Brand. However, I would definitely consider these for the court.

Not much else to say about these…?

A Kind of Guise X Adidas Consortium Ultra Boost – Dropped 8/25/18 for $220

Most Consortium collabs reel me in with the  subtle details and this pair is no exception. I love the ribbed upper and the wraparound lacing system that replaces the typical Ultra Boost cage. I also really really like the colorful outsole. Throw in a luxe velour towel that says “No Worries We’ve Done This Before” and you’ve got a winner in my eyes.

We all know these are going to be comfortable af too.

Now if only they had a wider release! Per SneakerNews, they’re only available at End, SNS and TGWO. So if you like these, good luck getting a pair and I hope you have a cousin who lives in Europe, because they’re gonna be hard to find in the states.

One aspect of the Ultra Boost I’ve always had a hard time with is the retail pricepoint. I’ve always felt like $220 was a bit too much for these. I’d be happier if they were in the $180ish price range.

There is some heat dropping this coming week. Here is what I’m looking forward to:

  • Nigel Sylvester Air Jordan 1s – click here for the story behind the shoe 9/1

  • Air Jordan 3 JTH Bio Beige – 8/28

Plenty more dropping but these two are all I have my eyes on.

That about does it for this week boys and girls. Have a great week!

One last thing, I’d love to hear what you think about the content I’m sharing so feel free to drop me a comment!
